The Experts Have Spoken
Overall very satisfied. Upgrading from a Sony 2.1 soundbar with a subwoofer that kept cutting in and out. Wasn't able to test it out at the store, but at this price point this was the only thing I can find at 7.1. Brought it home and spent ~30 min setting it up plus mounting the speakers. Watched a movie tonight and the sound quality was a huge upgrade from before. Subwoofer, while wireless, stay connected throughout.
Very loud. Great features.
This was my second soundbar purchase. I went with the VIZIO - SmartCast™ 5.1-Channel Soundbar System with 6" Wireless Subwoofer the first round and the subwoofer was just too loud and you cannot turn it down. That and the wireless surround sound speakers kept disconnecting. My living room is fairly small so the sub can overpower it. I love the Nakamichi so far. The sound is clear and fantastic. The sub can be adjusted down and even on level 1 it makes movies sound great with the surround sound.
Very easy setup (I am not an audiophile and do not have much technical know-how), great sound quality, and very impressive true surround sound. All this for only $499. I'm happy with my purchase and don't think you can find a better deal than this.
Easy setup, amazing sound performance. Highly recommended this for any audiophiles!
Sounds absolutely great. I couldn't stand the speakers (or lack there of) on my Sony XBR55X850C so I picked up a Yamaha 2.1 Sound Bar at my local Costco; it was a great improvement but I just could not live without a subwoofer or surround sound so I hit up Amazon to see what was on the market within my price range that was not too big (I've got a large Klipcsh system in boxes in my spare bedroom closet that I don't have room for in my condo). I found this Nakamichi Shockwafe Pro 7.1 Surround Sound Bar system but there weren't that many reviews yet. After having some Nackamichi car audio back in the day that I was thrilled with, I immediately logged into my Amazon Prime account and placed my order. It showed up a day late at no fault to Nakamichi (yes, it was UPS' fault) and I quickly replaced my Yamaha 2.1 with this and proceeded to enjoy the sound I had been missing. The Optical Cable didn't work correctly with my TV (this is an XBR issue, not Nakamichi) so I hooked it up with HDMI (ARC) right from the TV. It works perfectly.
Excellent customer service! Sent a question about Optical Cable issue and the President of Nakamichi USA responded back within a few hours, on a Saturday. Who does that? Nakamichi does that.
Pros: It rocks, the Sound Bar fits on my mantle, cordless sub, satellite speakers light enough to mount with 3M Command Strips right to the wall (I rent so no holes in walls), Amazing sound!
I would recommend this to anyone other than those audiophile snobs that won't be happy with anything other than whatever makes them feel so snobby.
Cons: Sub light continues to blink when Sound Bar powered off, which I assume means its still powered up and searching to link up with the Sound Bar. I resolved this by plugging it into a switched outlet.
You can now add me to the list of ridiculously happy people who bought this sound bar. Here is why:
I have a projector that has a fantastic image but less than decent sound due to the fact that the only sound output is a small headphone jack. I previously had a cable from that jack to the input of my previous soundbar (it didn't have HDMI input/output)
Now I use the HDMI Arc to connect my projector which means that I get the HDMI sound from the projector, while the Blu-ray player and Chromecast connected to the other 2 HDMI provide the image to the projector.
I now really have a real home cinema. Picture + sound
The sound is incredible :-)
I placed the sub-woofer behind the sofa, and right now I've got the back speakers on the side tables as I haven't bought the stands yet. It sounds incredible already. I couldn't be happier.
It took me 3 years since I bought this projector to finally understand how to resolve the lack of sound output. HDMI arc is my savior and so are the other 2 HDMI inputs.
This is the only sound bar in that price range that I could find with these connections.
I didn't buy it on amazon because I wasn't sure about their return policy on this so I went to a local store just in case. I wasn't sure if the set up would work, it does :-)
This soundbar and their customer service rocks. Having some connection issues and the President of the company interacted with me directly, yes the President of Nakamichi USA!! All my emails were answered in only a few hours.
Perhaps it is me, the 2 side firing speakers seem to make a HUGE difference when it comes to surround sound. Immediately, we noticed that the surround sound was much wider than our older top of the line Samsung soundbar. We tested using popular movies including Skyfall, Transformers (Age of Extinction), The Book Thief and Mad Max Fury Road. The dialog, surround sound and background effects were clear and realistic, even in a large room. The unit is also very loud and loaded with punchy bass. Since the bass is not boomy, I can still hear the details and vocals in the background. We also like the wider form factor underneath our 60” Samsung TV. Overall, very good value for the performance we are getting.
We have a 60” Vizio that we bought from Costco. Couldn’t find a soundbar in Costco cause they all look funny (too short) under our massive TV. Being old school, I have always been a mix and match guy. A name brand audio receiver with some good speakers and a subwoofer. I usually will not consider sound bars as I consider them to be inferior vs “REAL” home theater components. However, being on a $1000-$1200 budget, I cannot find a system that will work for me. After reading the reviews, decided to give this so call 7.1 soundbar a try. After playing with it for almost a week, all I can say is you have to experience it to believe it. This thing cranks out some serious volume, bass and the surround separation is more than adequate, definitely as good as some of the higher end ones I listened to in Magnolia but at half or a third of the price. My only issue is that the remote is difficult to operate right out of the box. It took me a few days to get used to it. All in for $550 with tax makes this a very good value. I am happy with my purchase.
Simple & effective true home theater solution. Here’s why:
-amazing sound quality for both music, movies and streaming
-can play Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 blu-ray movies
-plenty of connectivity options, HDMI 4k, ARC, Optical, Coaxial..
-can adjust volume levels of each individual channel; great customizability
-very easy setup (took me less than 5 minutes)
Great surround sound, easy to setup, plenty of power. Thumbs up!
I recently moved out from the city into a bigger home and wanted to upgrade to a true surround sound system for my bigger living room. I used to own a 2.1 JBL sound bar and really loved it when I used it in my small apartment, but now in my bigger living room it sounds rather one-directional. It's still good for music, but not so for movies. Nakamichi Shockwafe caught my eye because it is a 7.1 channel surround sound system being sold at a decent price, so I gave it a try despite its rather unknown brand as compared to Sony, Bose and Vizio. It has exceeded my expectations and surprisingly sounds very impressive, especially its surround sound. Its surround effects speakers boost the overall experience by making movies feel a lot more immersive. The sound quality is also very good. Voices are clear, bass is solid and you can hear much detail like atmospheric noises, bird chirping, sea waves, etc. Lastly, it can also go really loud and fill my living room with no problems. I'm very happy with this purchase as it is a great solution to my new living room. I highly recommend this.
Just got these and I have spent most of my time on Netflix. Have not really explored the system in detail or pushed its limits. It sounds great and so far I have no regrets.

Nakamichi was right to concentrate their resources in the bar. In the classic sense, it’s more than the sum of its parts, especially with movies.

5-Star Reviews From Customers
This is a fantastic soundbar. I have a large room and it still sounds good throughout the entire house. During explosion scenes the bass from the two subwoofers shake the house! Highly Recommended!
- Cymurai, Shockwafe Ultra 9.2
I've had this product for over 10 months now and I truly love it. Firstly, the quality of the audio, for TV, is very good. The dual sub-woofers bring to life every movie we watch.
- Hermann Pais, Shockwafe Elite 7.2
You know what "immersive" means when you have the whole thing set up. In the action scenes, we can hear the floor, couch, walls and roof rumbling. When there's raining scene in the movie, it feels like it's raining outside.
- mimibob, Shockwafe Elite 7.2
The Nakamichi Shockwafe 7.2 Elite is clearly superior in every way to my previous soundbars - so much so that I find it hard to refer to the Nakamichi as a soundbar - I really need to call it a sound system.
- BearsFan, Shockwafe Elite 7.2
Wish my search had started here, because then I would not have three other soundbars sitting in the way, collecting dust. Awesome sound.
- Soundedinlady, Shockwafe Elite 7.2
The bass is punchy, strong and precise. With one on each side of the room you cannot pinpoint it like you may be able to with a single sub setup. This makes impact moments in action movies hit so hard.....think Iron Man flying down to the ground and landing with his signature ground breaking entrance - you actually feel him land.
- Landon S, Shockwafe Elite 7.2
I just want to express how satisfied I am with this product. The sound quality is on par with much more expensive systems. Upon receiving the product it worked flawlessly right out of the box.
- Tyler Durden, Shockwafe Pro 7.1 DTS:X
The unique design of the sound bar really does expand the sound stage for this unit. It was easy to set up as well. It sounds great. Great balance of low, medium, and high sounds.
- Dean Frazeee, Shockwafe Pro 7.1 DTS:X
This sound system works great and is much cheaper than trying to get a professional system that costs thousands of dollars. It really does give the surround sound effect with the rear speakers.
